Amateurs vs Professionals
There is a GMC commercial with a great line in it that teaches an important lesson. I love it when someone says something that precisely captures a thought that has been rolling around in my head for a long time.
The voice in the commercial says, “Amateurs work until they get it right. Professionals work until they can’t get it wrong.” That is perfect.
So many times I have worked on a thing until I get it right and I am quite satisfied with it. Then when it comes to apply it, I am disappointed. I’ll prepare for a presentation and only leave myself enough time to get it right. I conduct the presentation in front of the audience and despite the good feedback I know how much better it could be.
I have learned to schedule enough time to rehearse until I can’t get it wrong. Then in front of the audience I can relax and pay attention to them. Humor arises more easily. My confidence soars. I am making a personal commitment to ensure that I do that kind of preparation for my presentations coming up this fall and thereafter.
Obviously, I share this with you so you can look at it in terms of your listing presentations, your buyer presentations; your negotiations and in this market your conversations with sellers about price reductions.
I always refer to the Real Estate Agents business as a profession. “Amateurs work until they get it right. Professionals work until they can’t get it wrong.”
